At Akesmere Farm Ray and Dianne
Hall run a flock of 15 pedigree Jacob ewes and two rams.
Since the Penwerris flock was established in the mid 1990s, it has gone
on to win breed championships at several county agricultural shows in
England and Wales.
Unusually, the flocks primary purpose is not to provide meat or
even breeding stock: instead Dianne selects ewes for their fleeces, as
she is an accomplished spinner and craftwoman who makes her own garments
and other items.
Her Jacob wool stall is a fixture at a number of farmers markets in Cheshire,
where the quality her hand-made items ensures regular custom.
In recent years she has established a herd of breeding alapacas, again
harvesting fleeces for their fine quality wool.
In May 2008 Diannes work was featured in the Cheshire
Life magazine.
